Best poster award, The 10th SEAWE
Dr. Kazuhiro Kakizawa, a researcher of ICRE, got the best poster award at 10th International Symposium on Southeast Asian Water Environment (SEAWE) which was held in Hanoi, Vietnam, on 8-10 November 2012.
The paper title is "Study on Distribution of Sediment Production Rate in the Red River Basin, Vietnam". This study proposed that the method of estimating sediment concentration in river water using sediment production rate of its catchment.
Best presentation award, 67th Annual Conference of JSCE
Ayaka Watanabe, a 1st-year student of Special Master Course, got the best presentation award at 67th Annual Conference of JSCE which was held on 5-7 September, 2012.
The paper title is "Study on risk estimation of shallow landslides using weather radar in Yamanashi".
Presentation Encouragement Award, 32th general meeting of Japan Society on Water Environment
Assis. prof. Tadashi Toyama of Base for Fostering Young Research Leaders in Leading-Edge Area got the presentation encouragement award at 32th general meeting of Japan Society on Water Environment which was held on 21 June, 2012.
The paper tile is "Accelerated biodegradation of pyrene and benzo[a]pyrene in Phragmites australis rhizosphere by bacteria-root exudate interaction, Water Research (2011), 45, 1629-1638."
The paper is first to clarify the mechanisms of accelerated pyrene and benzo[a]pyrene removal in the P. australis rhizosphere sediment. Oxygen and organic compounds from the P. australis roots can accelerate biodegradation by rhizosphere bacteria. The paper shows that rhizoremediation of pyrene- and benzo[a]pyrene-contaminated sediments using P. australis can be an effective strategy.
Two Best Presentation Awards, Water and Environment Technology Conference 2012
Risky Ayu Kristanti, a 3rd-year student of Special Doctoral Course, and Sadaaki Shimura, a 2nd-year student of Special Master Course, got the best presentation awards, 20 winners among 106 nominees, at the international conference on 29-30 June, 2012.
The paper titles are respectively "Isolation and characterization of nitrophenols-degrading bacteria associated with rhizosphere of giant duckweed (Spirodela polyrrhiza)" and "Analyzing faecal contamination of shallow groundwater in Kathmandu Valley, Nepal".
17th Yamanashi Academy of Sciences Award, Yamanashi Academy of Sciences Encouragement Award
Ex. Prof. Kengo Sunada (Former Director of International Research Center for River Basin Environment) got the 17th Yamanashi Academy of Sciences Award and Assoc. Prof. Naoki Kondo (Former Senior Assis. Prof. of Department of Health Sciences, Interdisciplinary Graduate School of Medicine and Engineering) got the 17th Yamanashi Academy of Sciences Encouragement Award at the Yamanashi Academy of Sciences Award Ceremony which was held at Bellclassic Kofu on 28 May, 2012.
The title by Ex. Prof. Kengo Sunada is "Construction of research and education infrastructure on integrated river basin management".
The title by Assoc. Prof. Naoki Kondo is "Epidemiologic studies on the impacts of social environments on health".
Encouragement Presentation Award, 2012 Annual conference of Japanese Society of Applied Statistics
Associate Prof. Toshio Shimokawa got the Encouragement Presentation Award which was held at the Institute of Statistical Mathematics on 24 May, 2012.
The paper title is "Modified Rule Ensemble Method and its Application for Bioceutical Data" authored by Toshio Shimokawa, Mitsuhiro Tsuji, Masashi Goto.
Best paper award 2011, Journal of River Basin Management
Dr. Tran Van Ty who completed Special Doctoral Course September 2011 got the best paper award 2011, Journal of River Basin Management. This paper was published while in school.
A paper titled "A Spatial impact assessment of human-induced intervention on hydrological regimes: a case study in the Upper Srepok River basin, Central Highlands of Vietnam" authored by Tran Van Ty, Kengo Sunada and Yutaka Ichikawa.

Sadaaki Shimura of first grade in Special Master Course Program got the best presentation award (Kurita Award) at 46th Annual Conference of Japan Society on Water Environment which was held at Toyo University on 14-16 March, 2012.
The paper title is "Analyzing Sewage Contamination of Shallow Groundwaters in the Kathmandu Valley, Nepal".
Best Paper Award (International Session), 56th Conference on Hydroscience and Hydraulic Engineering
Temur Mukhiddinovich Khujanazarov of third grade in Special Doctoral Course won "Best International Session Paper Award". This prize is only awarded only 1 in a year. The ceremony was organized in "56th Conference on Hydroscience and Hydraulic Engineering" organized by JSCE Committee on Hydroscience and Hydraulic Engineering March 6, 2012 at Johoku Campus, Ehime University.
The paper title is "Development of web-based, map-oriented workspace platform for storing and sharing hydrological data". In this paper, a web-based platform for arranging, storing, and geospatial visualization of hydrological data with a goal of research collaboration is presented. The platform, which helps researchers arrange their own data and visualize data from observations in their area of interest, is used as a working environment for planning and conducting research activities.

Dr. Rabin Malla who completed Special Doctoral Course got the 14th best paper award at 48th Annual Conference of Japanese Society of Water Treatment Biology which was held in Biwako-Kusatsu Campus, Ritsumeikan University on 16-18 November, 2011.
A paper titled "Formulation of a Simple Mathematical Biomass Model for Selected Floating and Emergent Macrophytes" authored by Rabin Malla, Nobuyuki Nagano, Kosuke Maezono, Yasuhiro Tanaka (Assistant Prof., Civil and Environmental Engineering) and Kazuhiro Mori (Associate Prof., Civil and Environmental Engineering). The paper shows his research achievements in Special Doctoral Course.

The title by Assistant prof. Tadashi Toyama is "Accelerated Degradation of Nonylphenol in Sediment by Interactions between Phragmites Australis and Rhizosphere Bacteria". The title by Rety Dasril is "Polyhydroxyalkanoate (PHA) Production from Tapioca Industrial Wastewater Treatment: Operating Conditions and Influence on PHA Content".

Dr. Naoki Kondo of Department of Health Sciences got the Encouragement Award at 21st Annual Meeting of the Japan Epidemiological Association which was held in Sapporo, on 22 January 2011.
The presentation title is "Socioeconomic disparities and health: impacts and Mechanisms". Dr. Kondo said, "I am pleased that my research supported by people around me has been recognized. I would like to step up my efforts".

A paper titled "Application of Material Flow Analysis in assessing nutrient fluxes in Day -Nhue river basin, Vietnam" authored by Nga Do-Thu, Yasushi Sakamoto, Futaba Kazama and Kei Nishida. This year 2 presentations were selected from 41 presentations.
Best Full Paper Award, 5th IWA Young Water Professional Conference (YWPC2010)
A paper entitled "A GIS-based approach for delineating spatial variation in groundwater storage volumes and potential areas for groundwater development (ID#IWA-2081)" authored by Vishnu Prasad Pandey (a third grade student in a Special Doctoral Course), Dr. Sangam Shrestha and Prof. Futaba Kazama was selected as the best full paper of YWPC2010. The YWPC2010 was held in Sydney (Australia) on 5-7 July, 2010.
